Splain this to me, you can't ask about this anywhere else online without being called a racist for just bringing it up.

Why are we celebrating slaves in Texas, hearing about the Emancipation Proclamation, when the EP only freed slaves in the states that were in rebellion to the Union?  Yankee slaves were still enslaved after the Proclamation.

Shouldn't the celebration be the anniversary of the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865?

Or is this just a made up holiday like Kwanzaa?
