I don't think I want to keep doing what I'm doing forever but I also don't think I ever want to fully retire as long as I am able to work.

Eff that. I have been working since I was 10 yrs old in some capacity. Worked in a grocery store, cut 7 yards, and worked in a greenhouse nursery at the same time in High School and College. I might pick up something after a while, but gonna enjoy answering to NOBODY (well wife of course) for the first 5 years or so. I'm on the 3.5 yr plan at the moment going out at 62.

Get and keep a Real Estate License, then you can tell people you are in Real Estate...they'll leave you alone.  But technically you have a job.

JC does about the same thing...just a little different.  Smile

Real estate is a little easier to do nothing and say you have a job than insurance.  If you do anything with insurance, people are going to call you with problems.

I'm in my 50's and I'm so burned out of Corporate America it isn't even funny. The complete bullshit I've witnessed especially the last 10 years is nothing short of nauseating. I've had jobs since I was 12. The only time I didn't have a job was the 4 years I was in college as my Dad said college was my job. Looking forward the question is if I get to retire on my own terms or I get laid off and have to find something else to bridge the years until I'm ready to retire. My wife asked me the other night if I thought we have enough saved for retirement. My response was I'm less concerned about having enough money and more concerned about having enough lifespan. I know how to make money but I don't know of a way to add time; only maximize it.

Retired in Jan. of 2022 and was just short of 66 years of age. Been working from the age of 12 (cutting grass, raking leaves, and cleaning out gutters, and just about anything else folks would hire a 12 year old to do). I probably should've retired a year earlier but ole Uncle Sam offered me a deal I just couldn't refuse. Anyway, I don't miss it one bit. I hope you find a happy "spot" for yourself.

Working a job with high stress and long hours makes you look at retirement differently. I love it!!

I’ll give you that…

As Burnside said....Eff that!

I worked 50 years, and a lot of 6 day weeks. Retired 17 months ago, and I don't plan on ever hitting another lick at a snake.

This this and this again!!!    CoRporate America has chewed me up and spit me out.  I’m ready to hang it up, but the wife says I have 5-6 more years.    I may be dead by then.    One more sales training and I may go straight off a bridge.

Worked since I was 8 cutting grass etc. retired last June at 67 after 45 years in IT. Don’t miss it at all. Whole attitude on life has changed. Do it as soon as you can

A common theme here seems to be that people who worked in the corporate world hated their jobs and really enjoy retirement. I guess I'm lucky in that I have never worked in Corporate America. I have only worked in smaller, locally owned businesses and while not every job was wonderful all the time, I have generally enjoyed everywhere I've worked.
