Barves question for Toasty or anyone who follows them...
#1
I know the Barves started the season horribly but it looks like they are coming around.  IIRC, they started out 0-8 or something like that.  Now, they are 14-16, so that means they have gone 14-8 which is respectable.  They are 6.5 games out of first with a lot of season to go so, at least mathematically, they are in a decent position.

My question, as someone who doesn't follow them closely, is; what explains the turnaround?  Did they get some injured players back or did they bring up some players who have done well?

im no braves expert by no means, . They open the year on the road losing both series to the padres, and dodgers, staring the season 0-8.
they came home and won the series with the phillies.
lost the series on the road to tampa bay and toronto
then being back home playing weaker teams they were able to sweep minnesota and take the series from the cardinals
back on the road they took the series at zona against a solid baseball team , and took the series against the worst team in baseball the rockies.
lookout dodgers and freddy and that foreign baseball slugger pitcher will be in atl tonight.
my non expert braves baseball thoughts for now is the braves are not hitting on to much, hope that changes for them ..

So, they have benefitted from the schedule having them play weaker teams, that makes sense.  I found it interesting that they seemed to turn things around so quickly.  It sounds like they may be back to being the Braves of old i.e. lovable losers.  I'm actually fine with that, those were the Braves I grew up with.

The Braves aren't lovable losers anymore...they will make the playoffs this year, I think they will win the division myself....

Right off the bat to start the season, tough schedule on the road, a couple of quick injuries didn't help either...

Acuna is expected back at most anytime now...Strider also...

With the new much more balanced schedule, no team has a real advantage in the long run anymore..everyone plays everyone else in the league, it didn't used to be that way, especially on interleague play.

Aside from the schedule which is true, the Braves also added Alex Verdugo as an OFer.  Jurickson Profar's deletion from the lineup due to PEDs really shook them and left 2 big holes where before they only had 1 (Acuna). The better record coincides nicely with Verdugo's addition.  It also appears that Arcia is old and can no longer play SS.  Fortunately the Braves added Nick Allen and he has provided some nice pop as well as solid D.  The Braves need help in the bullpen and could use another SP.  Which is exactly where they were in the offseason and chose to duct tape and baling wire the thing.

Riley and Ozzie have been absolute horse shit with runners on base so far.  You figure that will eventually turn around.

I'm fine either way.  I was a small kid when they came to Atlanta and I was in college when they won their division in 1982.  My grandfather was a big fan and listened to pretty much every game.  He was perpetually disgusted with them outside of the 1969 season when they won the West.  Of course they were then swept by the Mets and he was disgusted again.  I listen to some of their games if I'm in the car or outside when they are playing but I don't "follow" them.  I don't pull against them in any way a la OTD (although I think his pulling against the Braves was more to rattle cages around here than how he really felt) but I don't get upset if they aren't playing well or winning, that is sort of the way things were during my formative years with the Braves.  When I was at Georgia, we would drive over to FCS for Thursday night games.  We would buy a box of chicken at a Popeye's in downtown Atlanta and take in a cooler of beer and sit in the general admission seats in the outfield ($2 ticket).  We had a blast at those games.  Some of the games we went to probably didn't have 2500 people in the stadium.

Acuna coming back should make a difference.  I don't know enough to have an opinion about Strider.  I'm glad they're coming around.  They are more interesting to hear about when they are competitive but, like I said, I'm fine if they aren't good.

If the Braves don't hit HR's, they can't score with consistency. Pitching? Above average but again, with an inconsistent offense, it's gonna be tough. Bullpen is in need of help. If they do make the playoffs, they won't go very far. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't make the playoffs.

The Doyers and Padgays are really good and only two home series early and one of those had a rainout
