Happened at 3am for me.
Why is it inevitable that smoke alarm batteries die in the middle of the night?

It is a design feature to make sure you are aware the battery needs to be changed.

We forgot to turn the heat on a few months ago one night. Woke up with 2 of my smoke alarms chirping. Batteries were fine. Once the house heated back up, they stopped.

They make them now with 10 year batteries....
That said, the rule was replace when time changed in the spring...problem solved.. Like car tires and batteries, I get new ones before I get stranded. ![]()

(04-17-2025, 09:30 AM)Replying to McDonoughDawg They make them now with 10 year batteries.... My wife even said something about changing them with the time change a couple of weeks ago. We have a bunch, so it's a project. You're actually supposed to change out the whole smoke detector every 10 years or something like that. We have a set that is hard wired that came with the house and a second set connected to our alarm system, so that sounds like a big pain in the ass. |
