Edwards chose Alabama over rivals Auburn and Georgia.

Edwards' commitment significantly boosted Alabama's 2026 recruiting class ranking, placing the Crimson Tide at No. 3 nationally in 247Sports' rankings.

Alabama now has 19 hard commits in the 2026 class.

For the fifth time in the 2026 recruiting class, the Crimson Tide has landed an elite five-star recruit. Safety Jireh Edwards from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, committed to Alabama on Saturday over SEC rivals Georgia, Auburn, and others.

Edwards committed to Alabama a day after the Crimson Tide secured a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Nolan Wilson from Picayune High School in Mississippi.

"For the next 3-4 years, I will be playing at THE University of Alabama," Edwards said in a livestream announcement on 247Sports' YouTube channel Saturday.

Edwards is ranked the No. 2 safety in the class of 2026 by Rivals, which also rates him the No. 19 player in the nation. He is ranked the No. 23 overall player in ESPN's Top 300, as well as in 247Sports' Composite Rankings.

Edwards is the 10th defensive player to commit to the Crimson Tide, whose rise in the various industry recruiting rankings has skyrocketed after adding their 14th commitment since the beginning of June on Saturday.

With Edwards' commitment, 247Sports now ranks Alabama with the No. 3 recruiting class in 2026 behind USC and Georgia. Rivals ranks Alabama's 2026 recruiting class No. 4 nationally.

Alabama football recruiting update 2026

Since June, Alabama has also added five-star talent in wide receiver Cederian Morgan out of Alexander City, Alabama, linebacker Xavier Griffin from Gainesville, Georgia, and running back Ezavier Crowell from Jackson, Alabama. In March, five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds committed to the Tide. Alabama is the only program with five Rivals five-star recruits in the 2026 class.

In addition to Wilson's commitment on Friday, the Crimson Tide also landed four-star commitments from quarterback and Iowa State flip Jett Thomalla, offensive tackle Sam Utu of Orange, California, and tight end Mack Sutter of Dunlap, Illinois, in June.

Three-star recruits Javari Barnett (running back, Tampa), Rihyael Kelley (safety, Cincinnati), Zay Hall (linebacker, Tuscaloosa), defensive lineman JJ Finch (Indianapolis), Owen Cabell (wide receiver, Nashville), and Brian Williams (receiver, Orlando) committed to Alabama in June/July, as well.
