If people knew how many sharks were around the beaches in the Southeast and are actually scared of sharks, almost no one would get in the water.

I'm convinced the bottom of Calibouge sound at HHI is carpeted with 4 to 6 foot sharks.

Watched a friend of mine run on water getting away from 1 at Forest Beach back in the '80s. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. He was knee crawling drunk when he waded in. We thought he was a goner. He thought he was, too. We still laugh about it. HHI was hell on wheels in the late 70s- mid 80s. Leave Augusta , go through the "bum" plant and you were there in 90 minutes. Life was good !!

Yep, HHI used to be a 2 1/2 hour drive from Augusta.  Now, it's a solid three hours thanks to all the lights and traffic on 278 from Bluffton to the island.  I'm sure it is still a good time if you wear a young man's clothes.  I've pretty well aged out of the "hell on wheels" scene down there.

I hear you. I am getting too close to the "hell on wheelchairs" crowd. My oldest brother is 13 years older than me. He has always been my pace car. The last 3 or 4 years have been tough on him and I can see him slowly evolving into how my father looked as he entered the last leg. We have to enjoy and be grateful for all the sunrises we see now.
