the board of ed in Dekalb county approved (shocking) Dunwoody adding 2,000 seats and a press box to their stadium for a total capacity of 3,000 - the minimum to host a playoff game. This is shocking for many reasons…1) that Dekalb would do anything to benefit the residents, 2) we will be the ONLY hs in Dekalb county that has their own stadium, 3) a MAJOR donor, and alumnus that you all know that hasn’t yet been publicly announced, is footing an overwhelming majority of the bill. This will be 100% privately funded.
A little background - dekalb county has a few stadiums scattered around the county that every hs shares for football games. Why? Because each hs isn’t allowed to keep the gate proceeds - they are sent to the county for equal distribution (yeah communism). Not sure how it is going to work with our new stadium, but I would assume we will send a portion of the gate to the county. We’ve long had a nice, turf field with a track and lights that is used for everything but football. We will now have what should have been all along. Nothing like buford, I’m sure, but something for the kids and residents to be proud of.
It is a good week for the wildcats. On to the dome for the Corky Kell tomorrow at 10am. Team meal at 6:30am. Woof! Long day.
This is an old picture before the lights, fake turf, and track resurface. Newer picture below.

Current set-up…post turf installation and the existing 1,000 seat (big stretch imo) bleachers. I would assume they will stay as the visitors side and the home side will be built/installed on the school side of the field (in top photo).
