I'm still sticking with my theory that the guys in the portal are the guys who can't get playing time on their current team or weren't good enough coming out of HS for the elite programs to go after and are a step down compared to players Kirby and Co. evaluate and recruit. I feel like taking portal players is the equivalent of taking third string players.

If outside UGA, Caleb Downs and AD Mitchell sure don't fall in line with yer narrative. Noah Thomas and Zach Branch are big time WRs and bigtime gets. The Miami DT I just posted will need to coached up so matches yer narrative. The Army Edge Elo is a man with motor and werk ethics...we want that dude (04-18-2025, 09:06 AM)Replying to Smokindawg Didn't click———-> snap?

I think Downs and Mitchell were straight transfers, they just used the portal because that's how you transfer these days. I will be interesting to see how many portal players pan out. "true" portal players. isn't there a report on number of players that portal and don't land?

While is true for a goodly percentage of portal entries, there are also those players who blossom in their first year or two of college and feel they can move up to a better team and compete for playing time. Of course with NIL, there are also those seeking more $$$. A backup at UGA will probably make more NIL than a starter at Army. I trust CKS and staff to pick and choose correctly from the available portal talent.
