"A current Georgia football player and another who was suspended from team activities and then transferred from the program had court cases resolved this week on driving-related charges.

Cornerback Demello Jones, who was cited for racing his 2022 Porsche Panamera side by side with a car driven by Bulldog linebacker Smael Mondon on July 10 on W. Broad Street in Athens, reached a plea deal in the State Court of Athens-Clarke County.

Jones pleaded guilty to a charge of driving too fast for conditions but the racing charge was dismissed.

Solicitor-General Will Fleenor dismissed the case because the evidence “is not sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” according to court records.

Jones was fined $499 and his attorney, Kim Stephens, said he completed a defensive driving class and a traffic violation impact program months ago.

Jones, a sophomore from Swainsboro who played six games as a reserve last season, was not arrested in the incident because he slowed down and police say he voluntarily pulled over.

Mondon, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Eagles in April, also reached a plea deal for the incident last August. He plead guilty to driving too fast for conditions and had charges of reckless driving and racing dismissed.

In a separate case, wide receiver Nitro Tuggle also reached a plea deal on charges of reckless driving and speeding from a March 19 incident when police said Tuggle drove a 2021 Dodge Charger 107 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. The incident was after 10 p.m. on Outer Loop 10 in Athens near College Station Road.

Tuggle on Monday May 19 plead guilty to the speeding charge and the reckless driving charge was dismissed. He was fined $425 and was made to complete a defensive driving class and a traffic violation impact program.

Tuggle, a Goshen, Ind.. native, had 3 catches for 34 yards last season. He announced he was transferring to Purdue."
