Since Smart became Georgia’s head coach, 76 players have been drafted. Twenty of them have been first-rounders

Kirby Smart has now produced more first-round picks (20) during his time at UGA than he’s lost games (19), dating back to his first class in 2016

Georgia has had three or more first-round picks in one draft three different times this decade

The Bulldogs have now had multiple first-round picks in six of the nine NFL Drafts since Smart has been coaching in Athens

UGA now has had the most players drafted (15 in 2022) and then the fourth-most players drafted (13 in 2025) in NFL history

The UGA football program has seen 46 of its players selected in the last four NFL Drafts, including 13 first-round picks and another six Bulldogs who heard their name called in the second round

According to Brent Rollins of UGASports.com, the program has now seen 31 players drafted from the 37 Bulldogs who hit the field in the 2021 National Championship Game.
Smart has developed 10 former 5-star recruits into first-round selections. He’s also developed three former 3-star recruits into first-round picks

Smart has seen 59 of the 79 signees who stuck around get drafted by the NFL. That’s an NFL Draft placement rate of 75 percent

Just 5 Georgia players were taken in the 2016 NFL Draft (CMR). Over the last four years, Georgia has averaged 11.5 players taken in the draft (CKS)

Georgia has had as many first or second round draft picks in the last eight years as it did the previous 22 years.

It could also be theorized that the reason those players are getting drafted at a higher rate these days has a lot to do with the program’s success both on the field and in every NFL Draft.

There is considerable inertia now around UGA as one of the top programs in college football. It has reached the rare developmental zenith that the Alabama Crimson Tide was at during the peak years of the Nick Saban dynasty.
