ATHENS, Ga. –-- The 19th-ranked University of Georgia soccer team opened its 32nd season of competition with a scoreless tie at Illinois Thursday evening before 758 spectators at Demirjian Park. Thursday's result marked Georgia's second scoreless draw in a season opener in three seasons, following a 0-0 result against Pitt in 2024.
Georgia (0-0-1) outshot Illinois (0-0-1), 10-9, with four shots on frame. Sophomore Hannah Folliard tallied three saves in the tie, with all but one of the match's seven combined shots on goal coming in the opening 36 minutes of play. Senior Gabbi Ceballos led the Bulldogs with three shots in her Georgia debut, while sophomore Lily Kate Elphick also pitched in with two. Georgia remains in Big Ten country as it travels north to face Minnesota on Sunday, Aug. 16.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia track and field's Adaejah Hodge has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advocacy Committee (SAAC) after producing one of the most dominant indoor/outdoor performances in collegiate track and field history. Georgia football's Chris Conley is the only other student-athlete from UGA to ever serve on the NCAA DI SAAC (2012-14). Hodge, who was born in the British Virgin Islands before transitioning to Douglasville, Ga., has been named a finalist for The Bowerman (collegiate track and field's version of the Heisman Trophy) and was a finalist for the Honda Award for track and field after helping lead Georgia to the 2026 indoor and outdoor NCAA team titles. She was named the Southeastern Conference Indoor & Outdoor Women's Freshman Runner of the Year and garnered honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Indoor & Outdoor South Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year as well as the Outdoor National Women's Track Athlete of the Year.
ATHENS, GA.--- University of Georgia's head baseball coach Wes Johnson announced Thursday the addition of Vince Johnson to the Bulldogs staff. A native McDonough, Ga., Johnson will serve as the Director of Baseball Systems, assisting with analytics management, player development and advance scouting. He spent the 2026 season with the Bulldogs as an analytics manager when Georgia advanced to the College World Series and finished ranked No. 3 nationally. The Bulldogs posted a school-record 53 wins last season after winning the Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament titles.
