I figured we'd start with the most important position on the field. Gunner Stockton – RS SR – #14 – 6'1", 215 lbs [/list]
Gunner has been fairly polarizing as a QB and his results in '25 were mixed. He brought a toughness not seen in a long time to the position and ran with reckless abandon in many games. He got tough yards when they were needed and looked very good for most of the season. However, as the season wore on he seemed to look less to the longer throws and struggled at times when Bobo went down. Either way, he's the clear number one and will only be unseated due to injury...which, with the way he plays could be at any time.
Spoiler alert!!! - The rest of these are not really ranked in order...I believe the order is going to change by the time the bullets start flying...
Ryan Puglisi[] – RS SO – #12 – 6'3", 210 lbs
By all accounts, Pugs has been a DGD from day one. He probably has the strongest arm on the roster and arguably the strongest arm since Stafford. However, some of the shine has started to come off of Pugs due to him completing passes to the defense too often. I think there's a real chance he drops in the pecking order and looks for greener pastures after the season.
Ryan Montgomery[ – RS FR – #15 – 6'3", 215 lbs
Coming off an ACL last season, Montgomery is finally healthy. Many have thought he would be "next" in line and still could. However, he seems to fit the role as a "game manager" more than a true passer. Smart kid and has some game. But, much like Pugs, there is talent that is knocking on his door and may leave Monty to head out with Pugs as things progress.
Hezekiah Millender[/b][/b] – RS FR – #19 – 6'3", 215 lbs
Here's where it gets interesting...by all accounts this kid seems to be headed toward the No. 2 spot in a hurry. He looked great in the spring game (many thought he looked the best) and has all the tools to by a dynamic passer/player. The question is: Will Kirby let the talent win over loyalty? Millender can run and he has a big arm...he still has the errant WTH throws every now and then...but, he could change the game a little and bring something we haven't seen since Stet...a QB that is truly a threat with his legs and very mobile
[Bryson Beaver[/b][/b] – FR – #18 – 6'3", 205 lbs
Beaver has been the other pleasant surprise and seems to be establishing himself as a contender for the job. In a world where pecking order is based on passing the practice eye test, he's either two or three on the depth chart. Some thought he had the best spring game...or at least the second best. He's been a quick study on the offense and is putting pressure on those above him.
So, what does all this mean? Who knows? Who knows what Kirby is going to do? One thing is VERY clear: The depth chart come the end of the season will send at least two QB's to the portal.
Pugs and Monty know the playbook...that's their advantage at the moment. Millender and Beaver are coming fast for the job. It will be interesting to see who gets meaningful reps in the first couple of patsy games.
