On one of TOS (much more diversified group than here) there's a poster insisting there should be way more Rap music played during the games at Sanford.   

I know Toccoa and JC both love the piped in music and are all for much louder and vulgar tunes being played.  (  )

I know I'm old and I don't care much for Rap at all.  Hey, maybe a little of the old stuff...when it actually had some quality (maybe).   But, this posters claim was most of our players are black, the college kids love rap, and it would get the crowd livelier.  While I'm all for "getting the crowd into it", I'm not sure playing a ton of rap is the answer.  I want to tread lightly here as to not make this political (is that even possible on a conversation these days?) or seem like a disparaging any race, I'm not.  I think we are all grown up enough here to discuss without it being a racial thing...maybe cultural?  I don't think it's a bridge too far to say I don't care for Rap the same way most black folks don't care for Country.  Just the facts.  

My retort the poster on the other site was basically, sorry, you've got a bunch of old white folks in that stadium (present party included) that give a bunch of damn money to the school that do not want to hear 3 hours of rap.  (or 3 hours of country for that matter).  

All this being said, we, along with most other schools, have lost the formula for the game day experience.  I do not envy UGA trying to capture this either!!!   It's HARD these days...we are all desensitized to EVERYTHING!!   Could you imagine someone handing out bracelets that lit up and pulsed to the music 30 years ago??   We would have all been talking about it for months if not years!   The "All Quiet On The Western Front" music "Remains" would have been cool IMVHO if they had played it 3-4 times and not 50!!    Remains | All Quiet On The Western Front | Official Soundtrack | Netflix  Probably would have been way more well received had we played well and won too!  

I'm also a realist here and probably differ from others due to NOT loving some of the nostalgia.   (I know this is sacrilege to many).  I think they've got to do something to better the band performances at halftime.   They've become almost painful to me.  Same as the cheerleader trying to rally the "Georgia/Bulldawgs" cheer on the second or third media time out.  Oof! 

ONe thing is for sure, the DJ they have is HORRIBLE!!!   I understand the need for a DJ...but, why not play some music with wider appeal?  

I don't have the answers....but someone should!!   Do some R&D!!!  (Rip off and duplicate)   I mean, the "light up Sanford" is awesome...except we have less than 30% night games!!

You have good points. I hate rap. Years ago I refused to allow it be played for the Sprayberry games and I was labeled an old white conservative. So be it; but I am not letting the N word and hateful things about women be blared at my school.

The school spends a huge amount of money on a giant band that can play all sorts of music but that band spends a great deal of time sitting quietly while piped in music is played. I don't care what kind of music it is, it is annoying to hear piped in music, Sanford isn't a nightclub, it is a stadium and a football game is going on. Let the band play!

The media timeout thing is pretty lame. Actually, every timeout or extended stoppage of play is terrible. Most of the time, we are treated to some stupid commercial on the big screen (pick the dog house shuffle game, etc.) when there could be "look ins" at other games, stats of the game up to that point, other game scores (don't get me started on the useless ribbon boards and the information or, lack thereof, on them) or any number of things that would be better than the Georgia/Bulldawgs cheer. At the UK game, they did the karaoke sing along thing during one of the timeouts and while these are pretty fun for the crowd, they didn't put the lyrics on the screen for people to sing along to. Unless you knew the song by heart you couldn't really join in on the sing along. I'm not a singer but I thought that was a pretty major party foul.

The ribbon boards should come down. They contribute nothing to the game experience and the nonstop flashing ads on them would have to be seizure inducing to anyone with epilepsy.

The halftime shows are really a thing of the past. I didn't really care for them when I was a student and they haven't changed much since then. I think public executions would be more entertaining but I doubt that would ever happen.

I used to enjoy hearing the band play Tara’s theme ( Gone with the Wind) after the game. The woke band director decided that it was offensive and stopped it. Now you can hear vulgarities in the rap music glorifying violence and that is not offensive ?

The big argument now is to "play what the players like"...I don't think it's controversial to say we know the make up of our team (and most teams).   Obviously, the college kids (some portion of them) like the rap too.  

Hesitate to mention this, because it can get this conversation off the rails quickly...I blame white women for the downfall in music in the US.  (blame them for many things).  As men, we allowed ourselves to devolve and "like" what they like.  Tell me I'm wrong here...but, young guys tend to play what the girls like.

The players don't pay to go to the games or donate to fund the entire operation.  They should play what the fans like.

I don't know about the "white women" thing.  Every older generation thinks the younger generation ruins music.  I know my friend's kids who are HS and college age like and play a lot music people my age loved along with the newer stuff.  Young women in general like to dance and they like music that is easy to dance to.  That was the case when I was young, we listened to a lot of Earth, Wind and Fire, Gap Band, Commodores, older Motown stuff along with the rock that we liked because the girls loved the stuff that was easy to dance to.

Let's be honest, if young women liked listening to rocks being banged together while a goose was being tortured, young men would play it all night.  Young men will do anything they think gives them even a 1% greater chance of getting a girl to go home with them.

You're 100% correct!  I don't know if there's even a happy medium.   

My point, which likely got lost in all of this is/was:   I think it's a slippery slope going hard down the Rap playing road.  Dare I say MOST of us over 50's don't care for it?  

I'd also say that a very high percentage over 70 do not care for it.  

I think it's easy for some to get caught in a vacuum thinking it has wider appeal.  

There's two things in play with this post that are intertwined:   Music in general and Game/Stadium experience.   I agree with many here...I'm there to watch the game...period.   But, now that the TV commercials take 3-4 minutes each, there's a LOT more to it.

Some truth to that.  But, I'd bet the money they take is from the "over 60's" is like 75%.  If you go "over 50" I'd bet it's close to 90%.

Seriously, no doubt the LONG TV timeouts play a role in the entertainment in the stadium during the game..they seem to go on forever..I’m not sure that just letting the band play would be an option..

If I read it correctly at ticket renewal time this past year, there were approximately 1500 less season ticket holders this year than last. I am curious how many people renewed this year because of the Bama/Texas/Ole Miss home games. I’m also curious whether or not quite a few of those will drop off this year with less marquee teams coming to Athens. I would also imagine that local merchants are a bit upset with the UGAA since they had an opportunity to get a bonus game in Athens with UF, but chose to reward Atlanta.
The college football landscape is changing, and I don’t believe anyone knows where it winds up.
