Thought you were talking about General Patton for a moment there, but he was only 60 when his accident/murder occurred.

Hate hearing that.  Played in a golf tournament with him several years ago.  A true gentleman and he could drimk some beer.  Had a lot of great stories about his time at UGA.

George Patton is a former University of Georgia football player, known for his impressive career as a defensive tackle. He was a three-time All-SEC player and two-time All-American.

Patton was known for his quickness and football intelligence. He was a key player on Vince Dooley's first Georgia teams, including the 1966 SEC Championship team. One of his most memorable plays was a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown against Alabama in 1965, helping secure an 18-17 upset victory. He was drafted by Washington in 1967 but did not play in the NFL. After college, he had a brief career with the Atlanta Falcons before retiring from football and working for the John Harland Co..

Patton was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and is a member of the University of Georgia All-Time Football Team. He is also featured on the Circle of Honor in the Butts-Mehre Building on the University of Georgia campus. He was nominated for membership in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2024.

He attended my parent's church and it was announced on Sunday he was in the hospital. He had stage 4 lung cancer. It had been a long fight for him.
