Since college football has decided to follow the NFL path in pretty much every way, how long before college marching bands are done away with?
Getting rid of the band would open up 400+ seats in the stadium that could be sold to people who would also be forced to "donate" to the football program. Revenue from those seats could easily top $1million. The band currently costs the school several million dollars a year to field. The savings from not funding the band combined with the new ticket revenue would generate substantial new income.
NFL games don't have bands and piped in music is becoming more and more of the music heard during college games. It seems like the elimination of marching bands is the logical progression of what is coming in the future.
